Thoughts about Shibata Katsumi from Natsume Yuujin-chou

Anyone here watch or read Natsume Yuujin-chou a.k.a. Natsume's Book of Friends? Well, then, here I am, want to bring the topic about Shibata Katsumi, one of the minor character on Natsume Yuujin-chou.

By the way, this article contain some homosexual thoughts, so get your feet outta here if you're not comfortable with it.

So, Shibata Katsumi is one of the boy our protagonist, Natsume Takashi, met when he's still on elementary school but Takashi just didn't remember him. It seems like Katsumi also one of the kid who make fun of the fact that Takashi could see youkai and stuffs and didn't believe Takashi's words. Because of the fact that Takashi don't really have a permanent place to stay until Fujiwara couple took him in, Takashi didn't even remember about Katsumi when one day Katsumi went to find Takashi on their highschool age. Well, I'm sure Takashi moved from one place to another a lot.

So, it start from here. Katsumi went to the town where Takashi lived when they're on highschool age. Remember about Takashi who often went from one place to another because the people who took him in always get scared with Takashi's acts every time he saw youkais. And remember about Katsumi knew Takashi when they're still on elementary schoollike, how many times Takashi moved since that time and how many people of Takashi's relatives Katsumi must ask until he found where Takashi lives on the time when Katsumi need to found Takashi? Wow, what an effort if we could think about that.

And there's Katsumi, try to get Takashi follow him right on the time they met because he wanted to know if Murasakia girl who Katsumi fell in love with who later turned out to be known as a tree youkaiis a human or not. I understand that Katsumi couldn't get over the thoughts of if Murasaki's not a human, but I think it's not really worth if he tried finding Takashi just to know about that. Like, I'm sure normal kids usually didn't really remember their elementary school friends after they got into high school, and here's Katsumi who didn't even bother to believe Takashi's words and there's a chance that Katsumi was bullying Takashi too. But, still, it's occurred on their elementary school age. Normal people wouldn't really remember someone from their elementary age even if that someone's kinda weird. It just hard I think, because people do change.

Why did Katsumi remember about Takashi and even tried to find where he was? I'm sure it's not just because of Murasaki. And, he even remembered Takashi's appearance. When he called Takashi back then, he only saw Takashi's back. Like, wow. I'm not even sure that people would recognize their friend from elementary school when they're both on highschool if they haven't meet for that much time gap—even if the one they saw is the face. Katsumi, you're really amazing. I just don't know if his memory is that good or what or if he really smart—because people appearance do change I think. Well, it's kind of logical in the manga, because only Takashi have silver hair, but he didn't have it on the anime and I think there's no people commenting about Takashi's appearance on the manga. Lets discuss about the manga one first, then. I think people just don't care about Takashi's appearance because they're more focused about Takashi's strange acts. Even if people curious about his appearance, I think they'll forget it just after some times Takashi moved out. Then, Katsumi? He remembered! He must really get curious about Takashi back then.

I think that Katsumi just got interested with Takashi since he still on elementary school, or he just laid his first love on Takashi when he was still a kid who understand about those kind of feelings. Maybe he misunderstood that feeling and bullied Takashi with the other kids. Then, when he met Murasaki, he felt the same way as what he felt when he saw Takashi on his elementary time. He remembered about Takashi when he felt something's wrong with Murasaki who always seems to hide something—just like Takashi, this weird because why Takashi, the kid from his elementary age, of all people?—and maybe it also made him also remember the feeling he felt back then. Finally he came to the conclusion that he might be fell in love with Natsume Takashi before that. Didn't want to accept the fact, he tried to find the boy he knew as Natsume Takashi with the alibi that he only want to know the fact about Murasaki. It's a double motive action I think. Besides to find out about Murasaki's identity, he silently also want to make sure that he wasn't fall in love with "The Liar Natsume" and maybe he also tried to fix his relation with Takashi because he still feel something from the past. Wasn't it kind of weird when he said that he suddenly believe about Takashi's words back then just because he felt something off with Murasaki?

Well, I think you can see that my imaginations are that wild, so please just leave if you feel uncomfortable with the theories until this part.

No? Then, lets continue. By the way, I won't take any responbilities if you feel uncomfortable because of my theories, sorry. X'D

And what if Katsumi just really fell in love with Murasaki—hard—and he just a type of a guy who didn't thought twice about what he want to do, that's why he's tried to find Takashi for the sake of knowing Murasaki's identity?

Well, are you sure? Like, okay if he feel hard for Murasaki, but if you think he's the kind of boy who didn't think twice, season six episode two and the manga chapter 74 are the answer. When Katsumi gave a call for Fujiwara Household to contact Takashi, it must take some times from Murasaki's episode/chapter until Takashi had to try remembering first for some seconds when Katsumi said, "It's me, Shibata!"

We knew that the purpose of Katsumi called Takashi was because he want to keep connected with him as friends, but didn't you think that if Katsumi is the kind of person who didn't think twice, he could just call Takashi every day? Well, then, we can conclude that Katsumi isn't that stupid. He knew that Takashi would feel disturbed if he did that. Even when he gave a call for Takashi, he must be hold himself so much before that. Why? Well, didn't you see? On the anime, he phoned when he has school and he phoned right in the school, before the club. On the manga, he phoned outside, when he had club activity after he phoned Takashi. Well, the it still the same, he phoned before club activity and asked to meet Takashi the day after he phoned him. Why he did that? He could do it later when he back to his mansion. For my thoughts, I think it's because he just couldn't hold himself anymore to contact Takashi and talk about meeting him.

Well, what if he just don't have time? Look at the end of the episode/chapter. He came to meet Takashi, and he even brought present with him. If he really busy and don't have time, why did he come to where Takashi live? And he could buy something for Takashi and Kaname, is it what people call as don't have time? In the first place, he even stayed a night at Kaname's place with Takashi.

About he don't think twice, I remember Takashi called him as an inconsiderate person who sometimes many people relate as a person who didn't think about other people. Kind of contradictory with my theories above, but when I think about him isn't considerate, isn't it all because he care about Takashi? He did think about Takashi. Takashi called him inconsiderate because Katsumi often just to stubborn when it came to things about Takashi. When Katsumi forced—without he realized—to meet Takashi, when he forced to stayed with Takashi and Kaname. Aren't that all because he just want to get along with Takashi and worried about him? He also consider about didn't want to talk about "Sotogi's Doll Mansion" with Takashi when they hung out and got worried the entire time when he knew Takashi might be followed by Nitai-sama because he lead Takashi's curiosity of the Doll Mansion. He must be really care about Takashi.

By the way, about Murasaki, I agree with Katsumi really fell in love with her, but I think it's still weird if he tried to find Takashi just to prove if Murasaki was a human. If he's being reminisced about Takashi because of Murasaki's acts—even the reminisces itself has already weird for me—I think the memory wouldn't be that hard if he didn't have some impressions on him. Well, I think I just repeat my words before this, huh? Well, I mean, just falling hard for Murasaki wouldn't make him try that hard to search for Takashi if he heard from his elementary school teacher or Takashi's relatives about Takashi often moved from one realtive to another. He would understand that meant it would be really hard to search for Natsume Takashi from his childhood. If he really don't have something for Takashi, I think he would just prove about Murasaki's human or not by himself or just let all flow by time if he's too scared too ask. Well, I myself can't imagine how many relatives took Takashi in.

Well, that's all. if I continue this, I would just end up repeat my words again. Don't get this theories into your heart if you don't like it because this is actually still just my headcanon and you can just have any headcanons you want to have. I just really like the idea of Katsumi's into Takashi and got up with this thoughts. Well, yes, I kinda like the ship.

Thank you very much for reading!
